INTRODUCTION

These are handcrafted art piece made with epoxy raisin pour art on cardboard canvas or wood. The Art piece are very pleasing to eyes. With its smooth shiny surface it adds a very premium looks to your home or office walls.  All these art piece reminds you of your last holiday spent at a beach side or in a splendid environment. They are very modern looking. The material could be any type of wood which gives a very sturdy feel. Except from wall art, we also design different tables, Wall clocks, Dining tables, TV units, computer or study tables on order with each piece carrying different designs just like any art does.

I want to introduce you to Resin Epoxy Art. Before you can get started, you will learn what resin is and what you should pay attention to when working with epoxy resin. I will show you where you can get the materials you need and give you a step-by-step guide on how to create your first resin work. All the basics for a successful start in the casting resin technique are given in the following article.

What is Epoxy Resin?
Epoxy resins are a two-component system consisting of resin and hardener. By mixing the two components, a chemical reaction takes place so that the liquid resin gradually hardens to a solid plastic.
The result is a high-gloss, clear surface. For the sake of simplicity, I will usually use the term “resin” instead of “epoxy resin”. Resin is not only used in industry and boat building, but also in art. Thus, besides kitchen counters, floors, tables, pictures, jewelry or sculptures can also be cast.

PROs and CONs
Pros
Affordable product of a high quality  /  The finish is completely solid, similar to a hard shell  /  Self-leveling resin with a very glossy finish  /  Releases air well, thus preventing bubbles   /   Lasting color   /   Strengthened against impact   /   Resistant to UV rays and water   /    Minimal odor   /   Easy mixing ratio of 1:1   /    Longer processing time to allow for more careful, precise work

Cons
Slow curing period

Decor Composition
As with every painting, you should think about the composition of the epoxy painting beforehand. This is especially true for Resin Epoxy Art – once you have mixed the resin with the hardener, you only have a limited time to finish your Resin Pour Art.

Supplies you need for Resin Art
AmritaParyani.Art Resin is made specifically to be used for art-related projects. You can protect all kinds of artwork, both fragile and robust, by coating it with the hard, crystal-clear finish of this resin. Use our resin to make, secure, and protect art projects from drawings and paintings to woodwork and sculptures. This resin is best used on materials such as wood, metal, plastic, and canvas, and can be mixed with pigmented powders, dyes, and colors.
Other Supplies - Wood panels as painting ground, Liquid pigments -  Basic colors set, Metallic und pearl colors, Neon colors, Powdered Mica Pigments for Resin, Jacquard Pearl-Ex metallic pigments, Airbrush colors set, Isopropyl Alcohol 91, 9%, Resin Mixing Cups and Stir Sticks, Heat Gun, Butane Torch, Nitrile Gloves, Respirator Mask, High-Density Drop Cloth, etc...

Which Painting Grounds are suitable for Resin Epoxy Art?
Suitable for resin art are painting surfaces made of wood, glass, metal, plexiglass, concrete and much more. Porous, absorbent surfaces are unsuitable. Canvases are not suitable because they would sag due to the weight of the resin and the resin would then converge in the centre of the depression. Furniture, floors and kitchen covers can be covered with the appropriate resin/epoxy resin.

Application of Resin in Art
The trend to use resin in art comes from the USA, Canada and Australia. In Europe, the technology is still little known. With resin, you can create works of art that enchant with their clarity, luminosity, brilliance and depth. Color pigments or other additives are added to the resin. Different effects can be created by choosing the painting ground, the type of casting, the colors and the additives. Even experienced resin artists have never finished learning working with resin. Resin can also be used to finish drawings, photos and pictures (made of oil, acrylic, alcohol ink, watercolor, ink, mixed media, etc.) with a shine that can be created and also to protect them from UV light and mechanical influences. You can also use epoxy on wood, build your own epoxy river table or create your own geode art with it.

Properties and Applications of different Resin Products
For my resin paintings, I mainly use the inhouse hardener and resing chemicals. They are both available in India, high quality and certified as non-toxic. They contain no solvents, do not give off vapors and are odorless and non-flammable.

They protect your artwork from UV rays. In addition to these we also also offers other resin types with different viscosities. For certain applications, high viscosity resins are better suited than low viscous resin. Resin is slightly more liquid and ideally suited for clear coatings or embedding and pouring liquids and has a short drying time (approx. three to four hours).
Ours on the other hand is better suited for coloring resin with color pigments and for fluid panting and has a longer drying time of about six to eight hours. Our resin therefore also offers a slightly longer working time (service life of approx. 25 to 40 minutes). The time until the image is completely hardened is about three days with our resin.

Which Colors and Additives are suitable for Resin Art?
There are now many suppliers of highly pigmented paints whose products are particularly suitable for use in resin. You can use color pigments in powder form, AP.ART colors (very color intensive, a few drops are enough), ink, alcohol ink, liquid acrylic paints and spray paints. There are no limits to your imagination. You should not add water to your paints, because water makes the resin milky and it no longer hardens completely.
Depending on the type of pigments used, you will get different results. There are also color pigments in powder form that are not suitable for resin. It is best to experiment with your colors on small painting surfaces before you dare to take on large Resin Art paintings. Some manufacturers keep lists of pigments that are suitable for coloring resin, such as Faber Castell. It is important that you stir the color into the resin thoroughly (but gently).

Achieve sparkling and glowing Effects in your Epoxy Painting -
By adding glitter or decoration stones and crystals to your Resin Epoxy Art you can set beautiful accents. For example, you can cast the currently very trendy geodes.

What to do against Air Bubbles?
The formation of air bubbles in the resin cannot be avoided. If you stir your casting resin slowly and heat it up briefly in between, the bubbles should not be a problem. Heat will cause the bubbles to rise to the surface and burst. Heat the resin on a painting surface regularly with a hot-air dryer or better still with a butane torch.
Keep the heat source about 10 cm away from your Epoxy Art and move the torch in fast movements over the painting. Otherwise the resin will start to boil and it will clump. If the resin is colored white, this can be seen by the fact that it turns yellow. If this happens to you, you have to remove the clumped resin from the surface and pour it again.

How to make Resin Art ?
Once you are clear about the image design and color selection, you are ready to go for your first Resin Painting:
Ensure a clean, dust-free workplace in a well-ventilated room. Lay foils to protect your workplace and the floor. The material you need should be within easy reach.
Stick your painting ground on the reverse side with strong paint tape, so that resin drops on the underside of the picture can easily be removed the next day together with the tape. Some artists also stick the sides of the painting ground. Taping pages or not – this is of course a matter of taste, everyone should do it the way they like.
Place your painting base raised on your tabletop, e.g. on cups. If your painting base is directly on the tabletop, the reverse side will stick to the tabletop due to the resin flowing down.

Use the level to make sure that your painting surface is horizontal on the worktop. Otherwise, the resin will melt and your beautiful motif will be invisible after a short time.
Use disposable nitrile gloves (no vinil or latex) and wear long-sleeved clothing.
Mix the required amount of resin and hardener in the correct ratio for 3 minutes. Both resin and hardener are mixed at a ratio of 2:1 based on volume (not weight). Use a plastic spatula for stirring. If the two components are mixed insufficiently, the mass remains sticky and does not harden completely.

Now the fun begins: Color the resin in disposable cups with different colors. Be sparing with color, a few drops or a hint of pigments are usually enough. You can pour the resin cups individually on your painting ground or use one of the well-known pouring techniques. For example: Puddle Pour, Dirty Pour, Flip Cup, Swirl, Air Swipe etc.
You can also add some silicone oil or even better Resi-Blast to the color mixtures. Resi-Blast was specially developed for the Resin Epoxy Art of cell formation.
You can influence the course of the resin on your painting surface with a spatula, knife, foam roller, brush, silicone brush etc. as well as by tilting the painting surface.
Avoid air bubbles in the artwork. If there are any, you can remove them by (very briefly!) using a butane torch or a hot air blow-dryer.

If the casting resin starts to dry after a certain time, the painting should not be changed. The resin then becomes very viscous and begins to pull threads like chewing gum. It then loses its most important property of self-levelling. Heating can delay the process, but only to a limited extent.
In order to avoid annoying foreign particles (dust, hair, mosquitoes) on the Resin Artwork, you should remove these if necessary with tweezers.
resin art tutorial
When the image is finished and free of air bubbles and foreign particles, you should cover it to protect it from dust. For this you can use a cardboard plate, which you place on four bottles, for example. A resin image is hard after about 24 hours, but still sensitive. Only after three days is it fully cured. The resin image should not be exposed to large temperature fluctuations during the drying time.
If necessary, you can apply further resin layers as soon as the Resin pour Art has dried (after approx. 5 hours).

Bottom Line
As you can see, the production of a resin Epoxy painting is quite time-consuming and requires a lot of preparation. But if you hold a successful resin Artwork in your hands, you will see: It was more than worth it!
For beginners, I can definitely recommend attending a resin course. There you will learn to understand the technique from the ground up – with all its peculiarities and precautions. You will be accompanied step by step through the individual phases: From preparation and design to cleaning and post-processing.
Have fun experimenting with resin!

Have you ever seen an image lasered onto a piece of wood in breathtaking detail? How about one that didn’t turn out as expected? Wood laser engraving can create beautiful results, but those results are not guaranteed.

C02 lasers love wood, but getting those beautiful results requires a bit of know-how. Consider the following tips to ensure you get the most out of your wood laser cutter.
Some woods respond to laser cutting and engraving better than others. Choosing the best wood will be based upon your end product goal. Both hardwoods and softwoods have the ability to engrave really well, however, choosing a non-porous wood would be best for a 3D engraving and usually has a better cut quality. Some examples of ideal wood types for laser engraving are maple, cherry, birch and select white pines.

If you are looking for a surface etching, choosing a non-porous wood isn't as big as a factor. Getting your desired look will be about how the etching looks to the contrasting raw material and your speed and power combinations on your laser system.

Another thing to look out for in wood is the knots. Knotted areas are harder than knot-free areas. As a result, wood laser engraving will be inconsistent across knotted wood.
I’ve been working one some new designs based on quilt blocks that involve engraving to create a two toned design. Given that the engraved / unengraved area is roughly equal, I thought this would be a good time to test whether it’s better to paint first, then engrave away the color or surface you don’t need, or engrave first and fill in the engraved areas with paint.
The patterns I vectorized were classic quilt block: Old Maid’s Puzzle, Contrary Wife, Pinwheel, Ohio Star, and Hexagon.

WOOD SELECTION
The best wood for wood engraving is boxwood. A boxwood tree grows very slowly, hence the hardness and density of the wood. Boxwood is increasingly harder to come by and therefore very expensive.
A great alternative to boxwood is lemonwood (it's called this name because of the smell, it's not wood from a lemontree), which is quite hard as well and a bit less expensive.
American hard maple is softer than lemonwood, so is Holly, but in my opinion they're both great to work with as well. I've also tried a little piece of pearwood and was pleasantly surprised! It’s a bit softer than lemonwood, but still quite dense. I found it nicer to work with than hard maple.
These last three types of wood are less expensive than lemonwood, which is of course great when starting out and learning the technique.
The width of woodblocks for wood engraving is usually about 23mm. The surface of the blocks is extremely smooth, when you stroke it with the tip of your finger it's like running it across a glass surface. A little scratch or dent can show up on the final print, so you have be careful with it.
To be able to engrave a block, you'll need the right tools. While they may look a little bit like the Pfeil palmtools that are often used for making linocuts and woodcuts, they're quite different. These are no gouges, but engraving tools such as gravers, scorpers and spitstickers.
Scorpers come in two shapes: flat and round. They look a bit like mini chisels and are most used for clearing areas on the block, or with the smallest sizes, making strokes or dots.
Gravers come in two shapes as well: square and lozenge. These make sharp, thin lines and can also be used for strokes that vary in width, by changing the angle of the tool while working.
Starting to engrave the wood is not too different from when you start with a gouge on linoleum: you hold the tip of the tool on the material and push the tool forward. The angle in which an engraving tool is held is different from holding a gouge though! The tool lies almost flat on the surface. Hold it up too high and the point will run into the wood and get stuck. The lines you carve don't need to get so deep, a small incision on the surface is enough to show up in the print.

The printing part is not too different from any other relief printing technique. You do need to use an oil based ink though! Water based inks will be absorbed by the block and will cause the grain to raise, which will ruin your engraving. Also, printing on textured papers is quite difficult. A highly detailed piece often looks best on a smooth type of paper anyway... I've had great results on Simili Japon paper.

Any wood that is lightweight and has minimal streaking will produce high quality and attractive engravings. Some of the best woods for laser engraving include Plywood, Alder, Douglas, Balsa, Fir, and Cork. The wood's resin content determines whether your engraving will become light or dark.
Moreover, it can engrave and cut lots a huge wood variety: Beech, Walnut, Oak, Birch, Bamboo, Maple, Pine, Cherry, the CO2 laser engraver is respectful of the wood when processed, so varnish or paint can be put afterwards.

NO PLYWOOD
While plywoods and veneers hold definition well, making them great candidates for surface engravings, they are not a great choice for 3D engraving. Plywoods and other plys made up of many layers are full of glue and air pockets, which get in the way of 3D laser engraving.
When a laser has air in front of it, that air causes the beam to expand, causing you to lose focus or detail. With a hardwood or solid piece of wood, the beam has a tunneling effect, which allows the beam to stay in focus and results in crisp, clean engravings.
It's worth noting that cutting can be a challenge on plywood also. The glues and chemicals that go into the plywood can cause flames and burning. These problems don't occur with solid pieces of wood, allowing them to cut a lot nicer. If you are planning to cut plywoods, do it at a faster speed to decrease burning and reduce the chance of charring.
In order to get great results with wood laser engraving, it’s vital to have a flat, consistent surface. Woods must be planed down properly, otherwise they will not engrave nicely.

TEAK WOOD
Teak wood is one of the most commonly used wood types, available locally. Some manufacturers also import teak wood from Burma and Ghana. In India, Kerala is one of the biggest suppliers of teak wood. It is strong and very durable and is often used for building door frames, cabinets and tables. Teak wood is resistant to decay and can outlast all other types of wood. Since it is a hard wood, it can also withstand extreme heat and cold and therefore, it is also used for creating outdoor furniture.

SATIN WOOD
Furniture or articles that have a vintage look, are made of satin wood. It is an affordable material and is available locally and is supplied from central and southern Indian states. However, satin wood requires regular maintenance. Satin wood furniture is also hard and durable and can be given the desired look or finish, by using different types of polish. Satin wood furniture usually has a very lustrous look, since its grain is varied. Usually, satin wood furniture is bright yellow-coloured and in warm shades.

WHITE CEDAR WOOD
Also known as Marandi, it is a good veneer for light-weight furniture, such as display shelves, trunks or even decorative items. This type of wood requires minimal maintenance and therefore, it is most preferred for items which are not used often. White cedar wood is mostly imported from Malaysia and it requires month-long seasoning, before it becomes ready for use. Since it is a soft wood, it is used to create the interior parts of sofa and dining chairs, which are later covered with upholstery. It is an affordable wood, which looks great and is very effective in terms of strength and load bearing.

SAL WOOD
Sal wood is considered one of the most high-quality grades of wood, used for furniture and construction purposes. Sal wood is a type of timber, which does not require layers of polish to protect its durability. It has an ability to withstand water and underground damp conditions. Sal wood furniture is termite-resistant and usually used for manufacturing door frames, staircases and beams. Sal wood is usually found in Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.

INDIAN ROSEWOOD
Also known as Sheesham, Indian rosewood is a favourite for making furniture. It is also a hard wood and can be used with different polishes and finishes. Although rosewood is the most expensive type of wood available in India, it is mostly preferred due to its termite-resistant quality, durability and versatility. Rosewood can be used for making kitchen cabinets, sofas and even wooden flooring. Sheesham is also used in musical instruments and is largely found in south India.

MAHAGONY
Mahagony even stays durable underwater and takes up a deep color after polishing. It is found in Bengal, Assam, and Kerala.
Advantages of Mahogany :-
Glossy Finish : Its pores absorb paint so well that it gives an elegant glossy finish that makes it a perfect choice for making furniture.
Durability : It doesn't decay under water.
Finesse : It is the finest wood, therefore, can be sculpted easily.
Mahogany is used to make cabinets, furniture, and patterns in decorative pieces of art.

MULBERRY
Mulberry wood or Morus alba, gives a neat finish and can be carved easily to make floors and ornate pieces of furniture and decoration. It gives a neat finish and can be carved easily to make floors and ornate pieces of furniture and decoration.
Advantages of Mulberry :-
Strength : It is tough and elastic.
Clean finish : It makes attractive pieces of furniture because of its aesthetic appeal. Its color range is broad in comparison to other types of wood, which can be used to give a desirable finish.
Can be easily carved : It can be easily worked with and makes ornate pieces of furniture and functional objects like drawers and cabinets.
Mulberry can be used to make small pieces of furniture, turned objects and fence posts.

DEODAR WOOD
building material, Deodar (Cedrus deodara) is very sturdy, rot-resistant, close-grained and can take up the deep polish to give a good finish. It is found in Punjab and Uttar Pradesh.
Advantages of Deodar :-
Durable : It is long-lasting and sturdy and a fine wood.
Rot Resistant : Deodar is immune to decay by water and insects, giving it a long shelf life.
Absorbs High Polish : It absorbs color in varying degrees which makes it useful in making ornate objects and furniture.
In olden times, it was used to construct religious temples and landscaping. It is used to make railway carriages, railway sleepers, packing boxes and furniture.

JACKWOOD
Jackwood is compact, finely grained and easy to work with. It is found in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Maharashtra.
Advantages of Jackwood :-
Even Grained : It is even grained which gives it a good finish.
Easy to work with : It can be easily carved and designed to create furniture and other articles.
Aesthetic Appeal : The beauty of the wood makes it a popular choice for making musical instruments and aesthetically appealing objects.
Jackwood is used to make furniture, door panels, cabinets and musical instruments.

OAK WOOD
Oak wood is best known for its durability due to its ability to withstand constant rough use. This type of wood comes in a variety of colours, from almost white to a dark brown. Therefore it is the most practical choice of wood for dining tables or furniture that is used on a daily basis. What’s more? You can use this versatile wood to match it to your interiors.

CHOOSE A HIGH-QUALITY IMAGE
If you start with a poor-quality image, you’re not going to get a good engraving. Anything blurry or pixelated won’t leave you with a sharp, detailed laser engraving. In addition to image quality, it’s best to select images with a lot of contrast. If an image is dark, the fine details will likely get lost. Contrast is going to help the laser create more detail. Using photo editing software to manipulate the contrast helps.

Getting the most out of a C02 laser when cutting, etching and engraving wood isn’t difficult, but like anything, it does require some effort. We provide in-house training for all laser system purchases. During training, customers are given valuable information and education about how to deliver precision with every application.

ENGRAVING
Engraving is done with a multitude of purposes – to leave a permanent tattoo or some 3D Graphical artworks on Wood, Acrylic, Aluminum, etc. However, given the enormous amount of different engraving solutions – choosing the right one for yourself or your business may become an overwhelming task.

Flat groove engraving

Flat groove engraving is a routing technique, which by removing the material leaves a flat area at the bottom of the sign face.
The depth of the cut can be tailored to individual needs.
The biggest advantage of the Flat groove engravings is that the sign can be painted quickly and easily.
Cast Acrylic Flat groove engraving comes with white matte finish.

V- groove engraving
This technique is widely used throughout the sign making industry mainly to create Door name plaques, tabletop signs, decorative items, etc.
Unlike Flat groove engraving, V groove comes with a fine line with a bottom tip – ideal both for graphics and lettering. The end-result engraved text can be painted or gold leafed.
V groove works wonders on materials like wood, plywood, MDF and other composites, plastics, etc.

CNC Laser engraving
The laser engraving sends laser pulses to make incisions – burns or cuts host of materials.
The laser head runs back and forth to produce clear cut and very detailed engravings.
The materials that work wonders for laser engraving are Acrylic, wood, Lexan, etc.
Depending on the final effect, we can control the direction, speed, depth and the size of the detailed engravings on different surface properties.
This computerized machine must have illustrator files for the laser to cut at a certain thickness and certain lines.
Different laser machines offer variety of depths to personalize and customize the suitable material. For example, dense materials can handle up to 0.020 deep engravings.
The laser beam removes selected areas of the subject material creating a desired effect or mark. There are two types of this marking.

As engraving is the common term for both, there is a slight difference between etching and marking.

Laser Marking
Laser marking is an umbrella term – it includes a whole bunch of laser applications. Marking creates discoloration and pattern (usually of a darker shade than the actual material) into the surface altering both appearance and the properties of the material.
Again, no inks are used – laser marking is permanent and eco-friendly.
Materials such as Wood, leather are ideal for marking – the desired effect depends just on the intensity of the laser beam.

Laser Etching
Etching, a subset of laser marking, is somewhere between laser marking and engraving.
Laser Etching distorts the material a permanent message leaving the surface raised above the rest. Unlike engraving, which can cut as deep as 0.125”, it only has 0.001” depth.

3D engraving
At a touch of a button, CNC milling can create 3D engravings or carvings. The Milling machine can engrave graphics, ornaments to a fine piece of artwork.
3D design process is practiced on materials such as Wood(of course), Acrylic and even metal.
The multi-spindle router creates squiggly, curved lines with a batch of extensive CNC tools which highly resembles manual carving – but done at less time and reduced manpower.
But there’s more than that. 3d engraving on the CNC routers is similar to bright-cut engraving with V-point engraving tools. The G-code language (the encrypted dialect of the CNC routers) interprets the vectors and raster images from the results obtained by the software. The V-point can vary to 360 degrees. The tools mimic the cutting and texturing motion of hand tools such as roulets and burnishers (Source: Wikipedia — engraving) by removing the material as the piece rotates on the 360 degrees rotary.
There are two kinds for 3D engraving: surface 3D engraving and Subsurface internal engraving.

3D engraving - surface and subsurface engraving
Surface 3D engraving is a broad term which is generally known as just 3D engraving. The fact it is computer milled, makes it ideal for creating a unique, highly textured Graphics and artworks.
The rotary machine can create 2D and, of course, 3d shapes, 3D contours, etc.

3D-Miller-door-Engraving / Subsurface 3D Laser Engraving
Have you ever wondered how they create 3D images inside Acrylic, let’s say?
Also referred as Vitrography, is quite effective despite what you might think.
But how do they get the image inside the glass like materials?
Well, you see, laser engraving system has a lense to focus the beam to a tight concentrated point.
So, due to the optically transparent features of Acrylic, this point can be in fact within the material. The laser beam thus creates internal micro fractures with the point size of 40-80μm(micrometers) and a bonus – no damage to the surface.

Getting more interesting, huh?

COLOR / PAINTING
1 – Au Naturale
– this is unpainted cut and engraved bamboo. You can see how the laser changes the surface of the bamboo when engraving. By its nature, the laser burns the softer wood rings faster than the hard rings – leaving the a more pronounced wood texture than the surface.
2 – Paint before engraving.
These were probably my favorite. Easiest prep, easiest clean up and cleanest lines of the bunch. Painted first – I had some lovely gold spray paint, so I applied three coats to an uncut piece of bamboo. It’s a little hard to see in photos, but it’s gorgeous. Shiny and metallic. I’m learning I really like spray paints, much better than acrylics at least. We then engraved away the areas that shouldn’t be painted.
3. Paint after engraving. The blue paint in engraved areas has an interesting weathered look. Paint after engraving – to keep a constant, I used the gold again. To add some variety, I used my favorite blue acrylic paint on some. The paint was applied to the engraved areas only – unengraved areas were protected by a layer of medium tack transfer tape applied before cutting.
4. Two toned! Blue acrylic paint in the engraved areas, gold sprayed before engraving.
Gold sprayed on gold paint. It would have been the same effect as if I had just sprayed a plain one! Getting a little crazy here; I wanted to see how it worked to combine the techniques. Theoretically, it should have lead to two neatly colored layers. The first layer was the gold spray paint. I did a second shot of gold paint post engraving on some; blue acrylic paint on others.

Things I learned:
Plethora of transfer tape
– Painting first is so much easier. Painting the uncut surface is neat and fast. It makes a cleaner line, and is much less work overall. Also, if you paint first, you don’t necessarily need transfer tape. Often times the soot cleans easily off of painted pieces, especially glossy paints. Peeling all those little transfer tape papers was about to make my eyes cross.
– I preferred the paint on the smooth areas. The paint simply wasn’t as vibrant in the engraved areas, where it was highly textured. (Another point in favor of painting it first!)
– Painting tiny laser cut bits with a brush is a PAIN. I had more paint on my fingers than the pieces, I swear. Also, excess paint went over the sides of the quilt patterns easily. When painting first, the original edges are cut away, leaving clean sides.
Stack of quilt block pendants - no paint, gold on gold and blue overpaint.
– Spray painting tiny laser cut bits was much more painless; the spray didn’t drip down the sides but rather speckled it. To keep them in place on the windy day outside, I stuck them to another bit of transfer tape (a method I used in Week 61: Hexagon Trivet) With both “paint after” methods, the sides did not stay clean.
– The two toned pieces were unique, but spraying gold on gold was a bit pointless

Learning wood engraving is a lot tougher than learning linocut. I for one often slip and make dents with the belly of the tool, these marks show up white in the final print. The print of an engraving can turn up quite different from what you imagined it would be while working on it, some tiny details might not turn up or have a lot less contrast than you initially thought. When working on a linocut, I feel the impression you have of the finished block is not too different from the final print.

The reason why I wanted to learn wood engraving is because of the amount of detail you can achieve using this technique. One can create a lot of grey (by making a lot of thin white strokes) and the overall image can have a softer tone, not as bold black and white as in a linocut print. I've seen wood engraving prints that look like pencil drawings, which is really quite fascinating! I'm nowhere near skilled enough to accomplish something like that, I still have a lot to learn. I do really enjoy this technique and I'm sure I won't stop working on it any time soon...

We use all available timbers and a variety of resin colors.

How Did the Idea of making Epoxy Resin Wood Lamps appear?
Since childhood, my brother and I have dreamed of creating crafts. We tried to make different products: chandeliers from a wooden wheel, wooden handles, pictures, etc. The idea of making epoxy resin wood lamps appeared on Pinterest. Our first attempts were not satisfying but we didn’t stop. After some time, we found our style, but we are still improving on things. After visiting some conference about starting a business, I met a young man who made wooden toys. He showed me the website known as Etsy. All of these circumstances have inspired me to move in this direction and make my dream come true.

Step by Step Tutorial for Epoxy Resin Wood Lamp

Supplies
Wood (Oak, Roots), Suitable Epoxy Resin, RGB LED Light, Module for RGB Light, Varnish for Wood, Plexiglas, Hot-melt Glue, Sandpaper, Polishing Paste, Wax for Wood, Cable, Silicone Glue, Hardener, etc..

Preparation

Our work doesn’t start in the workplace. Let’s take a look at what happens before that. You have to go to the forest or any other place where you can gather old oak stumps. If this is not possible, you can buy wood in the shop or order online. Choose good quality stumps that are not rotten or destroyed.
The next step is to bring them to your workplace and cut them into the pieces you need for your lamp. We use a band-saw to cut off the angles and to shape it. When you are done with that, put all of your wood in a place where it can dry for some time.

Preparation of the Wood Consists of Several Stages
Rough Cleaning:
For this process, use a knife or metal brush to clean the mud and tree bark off of the wood. You’d better do it outside or find a suitable place for such dirty work.

Deep Cleaning:
This stage follows exactly after rough cleaning. Using an airstream compressor, blow small pieces of mud and dust from the wood to make it completely clean.

Varnishing:
At the last stage of preparation, you must cover the wooden pieces with varnish and leave them to dry for 24 hours.

Preparation of the Lamp Work-Piece
While our wood is drying, take some Plexiglas and cut it into pieces. The size of the pieces depends on the size of the lamp that you want to make.
Tip: Choose the size of the lamp according to the room where you or someone else wants to put it. If the room is big, try to make appropriate lamp so that it can lighten the room and create a special atmosphere.
You will then take the clean and varnished wood pieces and glue them to the Plexiglas bottom with hot-melt glue. In the end, the walls of the Plexiglas work-piece must be glued together in such a way that you get an empty box with a wooden bottom.

Pouring the Epoxy Resin
At this stage, we will work specifically with epoxy resin. Here we use epoxy resin of AmritaParyani.ART production which has already tested to make sure that it is perfect. First, weigh the resin and hardener separately – the proportion is 100 to 27.
Put the epoxy resin and hardener in one container and mix everything for 15-20 minutes. To clean the mixture, strain it through a filter that gathers all dust and pour into the ready-made work-piece.

After that, put the work-piece with epoxy resin mixture in the degasser so as to take away bubbles (for approximately one hour if the room temperature is 20-24 degrees Celsius). After one hour of degassing, leave the product to solidify for two to three days in a place with a room temperature of 18 to 24 degrees Celsius.

Finishing the Work-Piece
Finally, you are close to completing your epoxy resin wood lamp. After two to three days of drying, take off the Plexiglas from the solid work-piece. You now have your lamp but it is still unfinished.
Then take some wood and cut out the bottom. Inside the bottom, insert an LED light that is the size of the lamp. For this, cut a small concavity in the wooden bottom with a manual milling machine. This concavity is for the LED light. Take your LED light and glue it to the bottom.

In addition to that, make holes in this wooden bottom for a cable and a soldered cable for the LED light. You now have the light in your lamp. I buy my LED lights from a local shop with a voltage of 100-240 V. An RGB LED light can be controlled with a cell phone programmer using Bluetooth.
The next step is to join the bottom of the epoxy resin work-piece. To do that, you can use silicone glue. When you are done with that, don’t forget to leave the lamp to dry for one day.
After drying you will see that the surface of the lamp is rough and uneven. To take that away, grind all sides of the lamp using sandpaper and a grinder machine. You have to be patient and start from grit size 60 and grind for approximately 5 to 10 minutes. You have to change the grit of the sandpaper each time to achieve better results. So you would move from grit size 60 and increase it to size 120, 240, 320, 400, and 600 step-by-step.
The sanding process doesn’t stop at this stage: as this is a handmade product, you will need to use your hands. Sand the lamp with your hands using sandpaper grit size 1000, followed by 1500 and 2000. When you grind or sand lamps with your hands, you should make the surface of the lamp a little bit wet.

Finishing the Lamp
One of the last steps is polishing the epoxy resin surface of the lamp with polishing paste for car headlights. Finally, chafe the lamp with some wax. Now you can hold your lamp in your hands and feel satisfaction from the result that you can see.

Do you want your floor lamp to make a statement?
A striking floor lamp can be a living room feature in itself – adding height, color and character to a room – or it can be a more subtle addition, blending in to the furnishings and fittings.
Basically, do you want your visitors to go, ‘Gosh, look at that lamp!’ or do you think that lamps are like Wimbledon ball boys (at their best when you don’t really notice them)?

Another option if you want the lamp to be a talking point is to go for a simple base, but then splash out on a large, flamboyant shade that will add colour and life to an eye-level space.
A striking shade will look just as good in the daytime with the curtains was as it does when illuminating your after-dinner drinks.
Whether you decide to go for a statement floor lamp may well depend on the space you have available. A tripod floor lamp, for example, will work really well in a sizeable empty corner, but may take up too much precious floor space in a smaller room.
A floor lamp is a great furniture piece for a living room. No matter the style you choose, the most important thing is to have the perfect light in your home places. For that reason we bring you some great lamps for you to get inspired. Take a look!

Black floor lamps are always a good idea when you like to change your home decor often. Choose one with a creative design and your living room will look fancy anyway.

Standing lamp is the ideal corner piece for a lobby or a living room. It has a balanced elegance and presence. Made with architectural environments in mind, it is a classic and versatile lighting piece.

How will the floor lamp fit with the scale of your living room?
When deciding on a floor lamp, you need to consider the scale of your living room – especially the height of the ceiling.
If you have a low ceiling a very tall lamp can look out of proportion, while if you have a lot of overhead space a floor lamp that’s too short will also stand out for the wrong reasons, dazzling guests with its glare instead of filling the room with ambient light.
The trick, then, is to get a tape measure and work out your ideal height first, so that you know how tall the base can be before the standing lamp would start to dominate the room.

What kind of light do you want in your living room?
Standing lamps can be used for both task lighting and ambient lighting, so deciding which is the priority will help you to decide on the best floor lamp to go for.
If you want your lamp next to a sofa or armchair to provide reading light, then the bottom of the shade should be at around eye level when sitting – meaning that the top of the lamp will typically be around 60 inches high when measured from the floor.
Choosing the right shade is also important. A semi-translucent shade is ideal for softer ambient light, while if you want to highlight a wall or ceiling feature then go for an opaque shade, as these are better for decorative accent lighting.

How will the floor lamp work with the décor and design of your living room?
Floor lamp bases can come in brass, wood, marble and a range of colors, while shades can be anything from understated linens to brightly colored Ikat patterns on silk, so there is plenty of scope for matching your lamp to your living room’s style, period and décor.
However, you can also use floor lamps to add character and new elements to your living room. Why not combine a standing lamp with a small armchair and side table to create a cosy reading nook?

Floor lamps are also a great way to turn ‘negative spaces’ into positive design features. Those ‘nothing’ areas like an empty bay window or the gap between your sofa and wall can be lit, adding depth and character and bringing the room to life. Choose a semi-translucent shade to give a soft, diffuse light and create a warming glow.
One more quick tip: when deciding where to place the floor lamp, take care not to obstruct the line of sight between seats. A splendid lamp is a fine thing, but you don’t want guests to have to crane their necks making chit-chat around it.

Are you layering light with multiple lamps?
Interior design lesson 101 states that in a living room, layering light with multiple lamps is much better than relying on a single overhead source. Having several lamps of different sizes means you can use different combinations for different moods and situations.
So if you are buying a floor lamp along with table lamps, desk lights and wall lights, there’s lots of fun to be had in creating a lighting ‘family’. They don’t all have to match, mind: craftily mismatched shades and styles can add a lot of personality to a room.
There’s also budget to consider of course – which is where the Pooky range is ideal: you can mix and match shades and bases to create your own unique style, and while our lamps might look expensive, they’re designed to be affordable as well as distinctive...

You can’t deny the way that you didn’t have a clue about the names/classes of lamps that were accessible in the market. With so many options available in table lamps at Amazon, it is important to be exactly sure of what type you wish to get. In this way, to make things simpler and to save time, here is a rundown of various lesser-known types of table lamps and their highlights.
In case you’re attempting to choose table lamps to buy, head to Amazon or Flipkart online to glance through the stuff available there. A decent beginning stage, however, is to choose what shading and material you’d like your lamp to be. You can lean towards the industrial, neutral, modern or a fun design.

Next, consider where you’ll put the lamp. Check if there is an attachment close by and a reasonable surface for it to lie securely on. At last, what accessories will you need? Are these included or do you have to add them to your order independently.

Material TYPES
Metal table lamps:
The mechanical look isn’t going anyplace – dunk your toe into the pattern with a metal table lamp. It’s a method to add a scramble of cool to your room. In addition to the sturdy material, it will last ages without stamping or blurring.

Glass table lamps:
Available in fresh white or splendid and intense hues, everything relies upon your state of mind. Appropriate for the two children and grown-up’s rooms, glass offers fun and capacity to your space.

Wooden table lamps:
Natural materials are constantly a champ. Our bamboo table lamps arrive in a scope of hues to suit your home. Produced using spun bamboo, they’re done with a serious shine plunge and lacquer to make them light in weight and enduring.

Design Types
Decorative table lamps:
You can’t generally check the number of assortments you have right now. The decorative lamp is to a greater extent an enlivening component than a productive wellspring of the lamp. The emphasis is certainly on the outside looks of the lamp. There are lamps with basic and smooth base yet resplendent shades that can be supplanted. There are likewise lamps of which the base is the fundamental fascination and the shades only a minor spread over the lamp.

Tiffany lamps:
Then, you have the immortal ‘Tiffany lamps’. These are lamps with conceals made of cut recolored glass pieces that are combined with copper foil. The name at first was given to those lamps structured by Louis Comfort Tiffany and his plan studio (in spite of the fact that the ace creator was Ms. Clara Driscoll, who for quite a while stayed obscure to the world). It was named so because of its predominant impact. So, any lamp planned with a comparable look and technique is named Tiffany. These can likewise demonstrate to be incredible sized lamps when situated appropriately as for the complement piece.

Fiber optic table lamp:
For a child (or even, for a significant number of us), Optic fiber lamp has been a bit of a miracle. These are extraordinary alternatives to make a relieving mood for a gathering or as an embellishing piece in a darker corner. The slimmer hair-like filaments are made of glass or extraordinary polymers those work on the head of all out interior reflection. This causes them to transmit the lamp from the base to the tip. These come in single and various shaded lamps like the ones available at Amazon or Flipkart with numerous different varieties making it a focal point of fascination at any place it is kept.

Nightstand lamps:
Lamps that are placed close to your bed ought to be delicate and warm. They should be the ones that light up your bedside without upsetting your rest. The bulb utilized is normally warm and is secured by a translucent lamp shade that diffuses the lamp streaming across it.

Desk lamp/study lamp:
Study lamps should be quite a bit of a utility lamp than a decor improving piece. As open to reading and taking a shot at PCs are the prime capacities to be served, a large portion of them accompany an alternative to change the edge and tallness of the lamp. The choices are bounty with increasingly a la mode plans parading vintage, collectable and present-day glances showing up in the market.

Piano lamps:
These, as the name recommends, were at first utilized by the piano player to see the music sheet while acting in enormous assembly rooms or lobbies. The lamp is on a level plane extended to cover the whole width of the tune sheet that is joined to the piano. These later began to be utilized as study lamps offering a reprieve to the standard and exhausting oval molded lamp shades.

Bankers Lamp:
Banker’s lamp is the most exciting one amongst all types of table lamps. It initially showed up in the mid-1900s under the brand name of ‘Emeralite’ which later got synonymous to the name of the lamp. The lamp is portrayed by a solid metal stand and an emerald green glass conceal made to look like a longitudinally cut chamber and a draw chain switch. Since its creation, very few changes have been done, presumably to keep up its imperial, vintage look. In spite of the fact that the more up to date forms have diverse switch types, the original one still fits in as the best. The run of the mill green shading is subbed with a beautiful light golden shade. Since the lamp doesn’t spread boundlessly, these are progressively reasonable for littler examination zones.

Contemporary table lamp:
The key styles of such a lamp are the ones that you’ll discover on a gooseneck work area. This lamp has the adaptable metal loop that interfaces the lamp source to the base of the lamp. It’s this trademark that gives the lamp its particular look. This also makes it a perfect choice if you have to modify the lamp source often while working.

Water and power can be deadly. So, you must make certain to switch off your lamp at the attachment and the base. Then, hold up until it has chilled off totally, before cleaning with a somewhat wet fabric. Lampshades can be expelled and tidied all the more often.

When you’ve picked the correct table lamp, you may require another side table for it to lie over. In case you’re feeling interested, revive the entire area with couches, racking and delicate decorations. You can also make little updates with tabletop extras and pads.

Lighting in any home is an important consideration, key to enhancing the look and feel of the overall space. Wall lights create an inviting atmosphere and their higher-level illumination helps to create a homely space that is versatile at any time of day. Often placed to brighten darker corners and long narrow spaces or highlight walkways within the home, wall lights are a practical addition that save space, yield ambience, and can be controlled via dimmer switches to determine the mood of a room.

LOCATION
Wall lighting is a valuable addition to any room of the house. Some of our favorite places to include the fixtures are hallways or landings to create a welcoming entrance to the home and provide necessary illumination into other rooms. Likewise, wall lights look fantastic in living areas when combined with ceiling pendants, table lights and floor lights to create a ‘lightscape’ ensuring there’s always lighting to suit a certain task or mood. Furthermore, utilizing wall lights in bedrooms instead of conventional table lighting not only saves bedside table space but also creates a playful, modern aesthetic.

PLACEMENT
The placement of wall lights is key as there are several things to consider prior to installation:
Height – it is best to avoid installing wall lights at a height where you are going to walk into them or be eye level with an exposed bulb. Mounting lights approximately six feet from floor level can be used as a rough guide - although the height of your family members, ceiling and the size of the fixture will come into play when determining this!

Spacing - one fixture every six to eight feet should be adequate, although you may want slightly more or less space between lights depending on the lumen output of the light bulb you are using, or size of the room. Open plan spaces may require more fixtures to create a similar impact and lighting effect. It’s also worth considering the line of the wall lights prior to fixing – sometimes staggering fittings so that they purposefully don't line up symmetrically or horizontally across a hallway leads to a more natural configuration, but equally, having a pair of wall lights in a small space that don’t line up can look odd. It’s all about personal preference and important to consider the fitting you’ve specifically chosen for your intended space.

Location - narrower rooms, halls and stairwells with heavy traffic are best lit by mounted fixtures that keep a low profile and don’t protrude too far into the space – be sure to measure the depth of a fitting before purchasing to ensure it’s going to work well.

CREATING A STATEMENT
Due to the decorative nature of many of our steam bent wooden wall light designs, they can be arranged in groups or clusters to create a feature in your home - giving you more options when coming to design your space.

MATERIAL AND SHAPE
Ensuring that the wall lights you opt for coordinate well with and blend seamlessly with the rest of your interior scheme is key to creating an effortless look.
Choosing a shape that mirrors the curves of furnishings, marries with other fixtures in the same area or is made from the same material as other assets in the space is a good way to ensure a wall light will look at home in its intended area. Our modern wall lights come in an array of wood types to ensure there is a guaranteed match with your interior and our wide range of contemporary designs will suit an array of property styles.

LIGHTING EFFECT
Perhaps the most important thing to consider when choosing wall lighting is the effect you would like the fixtures to have.
Wall lights that have exposed light bulbs tend to create a warm, ambient output and cast light in every direction, whilst designs that obscure the bulb create down or up-lighting effects and more shadow on surrounding walls.

HARD WIRED OR PLUG AND SWITCH?
A number of our wooden wall light designs can be purchased as ‘hard wired’ or ‘plug and switch’ variations, but what does this actually mean?
We refer to ‘hard wired’ wall lights as lights that will require wiring into your mains supply by an electrician. In other words, they are not plugged in to a plug socket and do not have a trailing cable with a flick switch (like a table light would).
Our 'plug and switch' options come ready to be plugged into a main electricity supply (no terminal block) with grey fabric flex, an inline switch and a India plug. No electrician needed.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF EACH?
The difference between our 'hard wired' and 'plug and switch' wall lights is mainly aesthetic. The benefit of our ‘hard wired’ wall lights is, that once installed, there is no visible flex attached to the light that requires plugging into a socket. The ‘hard wired’ wall lights are operated by a wall mounted switch or dimmer switch of your choice.
The benefit of the ‘plug and switch’ option is ease of installation – no electrician is required to install the fitting and the wall lights can be mounted anywhere they reach a plug socket. They are operated by the inline switch already attached to the flex. A 'plug and switch' wall light is also well suited to rented properties.

LIGHTBULBS
Whilst some designs such as our Neap Wall Light and Cape Wall Light include light bulbs specially chosen to complement our sculptural lighting range and their energy-saving credentials, most of our other wall lights do not. It’s important to choose the right bulb for your space and opt for a style of light bulb that you like the look of, as well as yielding the right type of light in which to carry out daily tasks.
We offer an array of LED bulbs - some of our favorites to pair with our wall lights include:

Filament Bulb – a unique playful design of interlocking filament diamonds, coupled with a beautiful, soft, warm glow make the bulb a perfect choice for exposed wall light fittings.

The Porcelain II light bulb has been covered in a phosphor coating to control glare usually produced by filament bulbs and illuminates interiors with a comfortable and soft ambient white light

What’s an extravagant sofa without a stylish cushion arrangement?

Not just comfort essentials for your living spaces, Cushions can be so much more! Cushions can brighten up your space, reflect your personal style, and transform the whole vibe of your interiors. A refreshing way of adding details to your home furnishings and decor, you shouldn’t be underestimating the power of these cute little cotton filled pillows. They can be a breath of fresh air in your homes. The key to ace the cushion-game is to know how to use them and blend them with the interiors to get those magazine and Instagram worthy interiors. We have compiled for you 8 tips for cushion decor ideas to make your home interiors a statement of elegance and grace.

1. Co-ordinate cushions with the existing interiors
When the cushion colours and patterns are in sync with the existing interiors, it makes the décor look well-thought-of and classy. You can choose cushions with colour tones, textures, and prints that compliment your furniture and interiors. Thus, whenever you are buying decorative cushions and covers, you must always keep your home interiors in mind.

2. Let your cushions be a reflection of the seasons
Cushions are the perfect home accessories for transforming the ambience to match the feel of the ongoing season. Natural fabrics, vibrant colours, and eye-soothing floral designs are the go-to choices for summer décor, while rich fabrics like velvet, silks, brocades, etc., in darker shades, will radiate the warmth and coziness of the winters. Seasonal Print Cushions

3. Decorating with cushions? The numbers also matter!
How many cushions are too many cushions? Well, the basic rule suggests accomodating an odd number of cushions for your sofas. For example, a 2-seater sofa should have 3 large cushions, a 3 or 4 seater sofa can have 5 cushions. Another way to add some quirk is to pair the large cushions with the smaller ones as they not only take up lesser space but also elevate the aesthetics of your sofa. However, any number of cushions can be used to quirk up your space depending on your taste and preference, one does not have to follow any rules specifically. Design is after all what pleases the eye and soothes the heart.

4. Play with the cushion sizes and shapes
The size of the sofa or bed in question determines the number of cushions required as well as the size of the cushions. Usually, for a 3-person sofa 50*50cm cushions are used. You can also experiment with the shapes of the cushions. One can either opt for conventional square-shaped or can go with rectangular, oval, and round. You can always mix and match the shapes and sizes and see what works for you the best.

5. Mix and match with the prints
Versatile choices in cushion prints can enhance the décor instantly. While one set of prints can be subtle with fine detailing, the other can be bold and eccentric in such a way that they complement one another. Moreover, it's an effortless way to reorient the vibe of your space.

6. Adding cushions to your rooms
A coordinated set of bedsheets and cushion covers is an excellent option to break the monotony of your bedroom. For the master bedroom, we would highly recommend you to go for classics like breezy hand-block prints and summer-friendly floral prints. On the other hand, your kid’s room gives you the license to be extra creative. The funkier, the better! So, take the liberty to materialize your offbeat ideas and let your creative juices flow.

7. Make contrast in cushion styling
Amongst other cushion cover decoration ideas, contrast is our personal favourite. Contrast is always a good idea to spice things up. If your home décor or sofa set is neutral and soft-toned, you can opt for bright-coloured, contrast block with horizontal and vertical lines to make it more interesting.

8. Give your existing cushions a makeover
If you love creating art, cushions can be your canvas. You can just revamp your old cushions and give them an interesting twist. Adding crochet laces, adding sequences to the printed cushion covers, etc., can be fun DIYs for cushions you can try at home to restyle your cushions and give a fresh look to your space without spending a single penny! So, are you ready to cushion it up? While cushions may not take up a lot of your interior space, they are those little details that can change the mood of the place if used rightly. Consider cushions as the accessory for your sofa dress up, without which their look would be incomplete. Cushions serve as an effortless, quick, and inexpensive way to revive the spark of your living spaces. So, get on and implement our interior tips for cushions to give your home that extra cushion-edge.

DIY - Do It Yourself
I am excited to share a fun DIY for making abstract pillow cases with fabric paint, working with our good friends over Fabe Castell. This past year I’ve been obsessed with abstract everything from paintings to textiles to home decor pieces. And in this new year, one of my big goals is to refresh all my spaces, even if it’s something as small as a new simple accent. I have been crushing on these pillows since I spotted them on Amazon a while back, and wanted to try my hand at creating something inspired by them! And, of course, I couldn’t stop without doing a colorful abstract pillow as well!

Supplies Needed: 10 oz. canvas for the front of the pillow, black cotton fabric for the back side of the cushion, permanent black marker, acrylic paint, various colors, fabric medium, paintbrushes, gold glitter paint, acrylic jewels, fabric glue, flexible varnish, scissors, sewing machine, 16" x 16" pillow form
needle and thread

The painting process is super simple!
1. Cut an 18" x 18" canvas and an 18" x 18" black cotton fabric for the 16" x 16" pillow form. This includes a 1/2-inch seam allowance on all edges.

2. Place the two pieces of fabric with right sides together and pin together.

3. Machine stitch around the four corners and three sides, leaving an opening in the center of the remaining side big enough to insert the pillow form. Fasten the ends of the threads securely.

4. Turn the cover right side out.

5. Draw a chosen image on the canvas side of the pillow cover using a permanent black marker.

6. Mix fabric medium into the chosen acrylic paint colors.

7. Paint the image for your pillow. Start with the skin tone, then the hair, then the clothes and background. Paint the eye color last. Let dry.

8. Embellish the painting with glitter fabric paint.

9. Attach an acrylic jewel with fabric glue to the eye. Let dry overnight.

10. Apply three coats of flexible varnish. Let dry.

11. Insert a 16" x 16" pillow form.

12. Turn under the raw edges of the opening in line with the remainder of the seam and hand stitch the opening closed.

There you have it! An easy, pretty pillow set that you can make to match the colors in your home!
